At Homestead, we don’t take an assembly line approach to CPL training.  It’s too important.  We keep the classes smaller so you get more individualized training.  Our guarantee is that you’ll find us to be the most thorough, high quality class around.  Skimping on pistol training is like skimping on a surgeon.  But we’ve lowered our prices for the summer to make it more affordable.  So come train with the best.

Positive stories about self defense with a gun.

Sadly the media is only interested in stories which paint a negative picture of gun owners or create controversy.  Most of the gun related news stories are about the tiniest fraction of gun deaths and they love to over-hype the rare accidental shooting.  The truth is that most gun owners are very responsible and safe.  Compared to gang shootings and police related shootings, accidents with guns are actually quite rare in the grand scheme of things.  But if you listen to popular media, you’d be led to believe that the most common type of shooting is either the police shooting an innocent young man or a mom/dad accidentally shooting their kid.  This is media hype and should largely be ignored.

In truth, there are good, law-abiding, responsible, and safe gun owners who every day defend themselves against wonton threats of death and violence.  In most cases, if they had not been armed, they would be have been victims.  So here are a couple stories worth reading to remind us that the world is safer when good guys carry guns.

It does NOT only happen in America! Anti-Gunners get it wrong AGAIN.

Truth is a powerful thing.  But it’s too bad that in our country, with the help of the media, a lie can be perpetrated on the American people and they fall for it hook, line, and sinker.  Not this time.  The following article contains verifiable statistics proving that mass shootings happen everywhere, not just in the US and that the real solution is not taking guns away.  Read on:

Good guy with a gun defends co-workers.

It’s great to see a citizen with great situational awareness doing it right.  Note in the video how the pharmacist does exactly the right thing every step of the way. This is why readiness and practice drawing your weapon is vital.

Idaho Toddler Shoots Mother

Toddler shoots and kills mom in Wal-mart

If we lose more gun rights in America it will be because of stories like this.  This is a sad and tragic event that will forever change the life of this child and of course a mother is dead.  Very sad indeed.  I feel nothing but sorrow for this family including the dead mother.  No one deserves to die this way.  However, it was not because of the gun, it was because of a bad choice.  Nobody is saying this poor woman deserved to die.  This is tragic to be sure and I don’t want anyone to mistake my words as lacking compassion for this family who will now suffer a lifetime of pain.  But a better choice would have prevented this situation. Newsweek: Don’t take legal advice from Joe Biden!

Get a flashlight!!

This story illustrates exactly why you need to keep a flashlight with your gun by your bed.  The NRA’s Rule for Using and Storing a Gun clearly states “Know your target and what is beyond”.  Did this individual have the right to shoot?  Yes he did.  But was it the best thing to do?  A flashlight would have changed this entire encounter.  Though this shooter seems to have no remorse, you may spend the rest of your life dealing with regrets and emotional issues if you accidentally shoot someone you shouldn’t have.  All rhetoric aside, not shooting this individual and dealing with the issue by calling the police and maybe another form of self-defense would have been better for the pro-gun cause.  If we don’t want to be labeled as crazed gun nuts, then we need to demonstrate excellent judgment.  While I applaud this use of self defense on one level, I abhor the shooting of people by mistake.  Life should never be taken lightly.  After all, that’s why we have guns…to protect life.  Please go get a good quality flashlight and have it by your gun so you never make the mistake of shooting your unarmed drunk neighbor or teenager coming to make out with your teenage daughter.  Remember, lethal self-defense with a pistol can only be justifiable as a LAST RESORT.  Read the article and watch the video and see if you agree.

Wow…just…wow.

It’s amazing the politics going on in Chicago…though no one should really be surprised by this.  Chicago is the brunt of jokes about the worst of the political world.  So at a time where compromise is needed, Governor Quinn comes up with a way to add new fire to the old expression “Chicago Politics”.  Common sense??  We think not.  Nothing in Quinn’s changes would actually make Illinois a safer place.  It is political pandering aimed at reducing gun-rights, plain and simple.
